Victorian Lightning Sprint drivers Danny Milton and Ryan McKenna showed the South Australian V6 contingent they will not have it all there own way at the up-comning SA Lightning Sprint title after very strong performances at Murray Bridge on Saturday night.
McKenna in particular was very impressive in just his second outing in the Rayco Razor V6, taking a second and a first in his two heats, then after some luck going the way of the fluro orange machine, cleaned up in the dash as well to sit the V12 on pole for the final.
After getting dudded on his front row start in the first heat, Danny Milton had a lot of work to do in the Solid Axle 21 car and when you tie your right arm restraint to you left, it certainly does not help the cause, sending the V21 into a spin in turn 3&4. Heat 2 had Milton having to do it from the rear again and the under-powered Toyota didnt make much headway from there leaving him with the lowly starting position of 13 for the final.
Come final time it was Mckenna from one with S.A hot shot and current state champ Nick Hall out of two, so it was sure to be on for young and old from the get go. Mckenna shot to an early lead and looked quite comfortable until power steering issues caused the former Victorian champ to slow quite considerably allowing several of the S.A cars through without any resistance. Milton run into driveline problems later in the race finishing on the infield after making his way up to 8th position.
Both drivers did better than expected and with several more Mexicans rumoured to be crossing the border for the S.A title on the 2nd of January, there is a very good chance No.1 could be heading south.
A big thankyou to all involved in running the S.A series for making our guys welcome and running the event so well.
